Mitch Trubisky is a Top-10 MVP Candidate and Other Bullets

I’m just trying to blaze through Bullets because there is so much to get to today.

FINALLY, some respect for Chicago Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky:

ESPN’s panel of NFL experts came up with 10 candidates who they think will win the league’s most valuable player award, and Trubisky is among a talented crop of quarterbacks who the insiders see as vying for the award. Any time you’re on a list with Patrick Mahomes, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Russell Wilson, you’re in good company.

But still … it’s a bit of a surprise to see Trubisky here. Trubisky hasn’t checked in among the top-10 of any preseason quarterback power rankings entering the season, with PFF’s preseason rankings painting a portrait of a sub-par signal caller who is a product of the system. The traditional metrics suggest Trubisky is better than that, and perhaps ESPN’s experts are seeing what PFF’s numbers can’t (because, you know, numbers don’t have eyes).

Gil Brandt, a Hall of Fame NFL executive who knows a thing or two about talent evaluation, seems to see a bright future ahead for Trubisky:

he was very inexperienced coming into the NFL but he's in good hands with Nagy and is improving. The rookie Montgomery will aid in in his progression this year.

Jadeveon Clowney is a monster and the Seahawks have upgraded their pass-rush by adding him and Ziggy Ansah. Bears fans should be glad they don’t have to face Seattle in the regular season.
