The drama surround the Houston Texans’ decision to exclude franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson from their organizational overhaul (which came after the beef had been percolating for a while given other organizational decisions) is really spilling out into the open now.
There was that Watson’s anger with the Texans was a “2” following the DeAndre Hopkins trade, and then had climbed to a “10” at this point. Now look what Watson just tweeted (screenshotted juuuust in case he changes his mind):
To what extent is Watson playing around (like he did with Chicago weather-related matters), and to what extent he’s actually confirming the report about his anger is probably subject to some guesswork. But it sure FEELS like a confirmation, and it sure FEELS like the start, perhaps, of a pressure campaign to find himself a new home.
The Texans could of course get a haul for Watson, 25, but in a league with very few better quarterback options, are you really ever going to get “fair value” in exchange for your young franchise quarterback? Especially if he starts pulling on every lever possible to get himself out the door?
In any case, we’re here for the drama. Not just because it’s entertaining, but because clearly, Watson would be a dream addition for the Bears if they could find some (highly improbable) way to make it happen. Cordarrelle Patterson is on it, at least.
