Times change, people change, and things evolve. That’s just how things go. And when it comes to the Deshaun Watson saga, the evolution of what appears to be a hazy situation might be getting some clarity.
To be clear, I don’t think we’re any closer to a conclusion to the drama today than we were yesterday. But to read this tweet was eye-opening:
If the Texans end up trading Watson, it should be to the Jets for their first- and second-round picks this year and next and Quinnen Williams. At the least. And use the Jets’ second overall pick on the second-best QB to replace Watson.

On the surface, it doesn’t look like all that much. It’s a long-time Texans beat writer offering up a hypothetical trade proposal in which Houston sends Watson to the Jets. At its most simplistic level, it’s the outline of what could look like a feasible trade that could make both sides happy. But there’s always more under the surface. And NFL Network’s James Palmer nails it when he : “When the guy who covers the team better than anyone goes from NO WAY THEY TRADE Deshaun Watson! … to … here is what the #texans should do if they trade Watson, it means something.”
In other words, it means it’s time to buckle up. Especially on the heels of reports that Watson ꦉwant💎s to be traded regardless of who is coaching Houston in 2021. So while the Super Bowl is around the corner, every other conversation in football will surround Watson’s future (as well as those of the other potentially available quarterbacks this offseason). Strap it in, friends. For this is just the beginning.
