The Bears Aren’t Giving Up on a Trade for Russell Wilson Just Yet

Adam Schefter deals in hopium.

And this tweet will have Bears𓂃 Twitter craving more:

Hope? Rebellions are built on hope.

The Bears haven’t abandoned hopes of acquiring Russell Wilson in a trade. On the one hand, I admire the franchise’s gumption, especially considering what they’ve reportedly already offered:

To get a whale of a deal like that turned down and *still* believe you can work something out down the line is admirable. And to do so after signing Andy Dalton and telling him that he’ll start takes some real … something.

In any case, it’s more important that Schefter presented a window in which this could happen. The ESPN insider points to NFL Draft weekend as the next crossroads:

Think back to the start of the wee✤k when I shared this:

Waiting it out until Draft weekend could be the most prudent move. After all, it’s the only time a team can mortgage four years worth of first-round picks. And last I checked 4 > 3. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not opposed to a place-holder such as Ryan Fitzpatrick signing at a later date. It’s just that there’s no reason to act irrationally when the Seahawks or Texans can circle back at draf🎐t time and say something like: Remember when you offered three first round picks? Make it four and we’ll have a deal. Would Pace turn that down? Probably not.

And frankly, a deal gꦍoing down during the 2021 NFL Draft makes more sense than one happening at the start of the league year. In fact, it always has.

💖Then again, I also wrote this at the start of the week:

Ryan Pace needs to be patient throughout all this. If a deal with Wilson or Deshaun Watson doesn’t come, there’s no good reason to rush to overpay a lesser option. Unless he went out and did something irration𓃲al earl✨ier in the offseason.

Sigh. Just when you think you’re out, they find a way to pull you back in. And that Schefter’s NFL Network counterpart, I suppose we might as well keep that in mind when the calendar turns to April.

Nಞot when he’s shown a failure when it comes to asset management. Not when he’s shown an inability to evaluate the quarterback position. Not when he’s on a one-year contract
