The big question yesterday was to what extent Aar🐼on Rodgers truly wants oꦐut of Green Bay no matter what, and to what extent everything that’s happening is a leverage play during extension negotiations. The balance of information out there suggests it’s more more the former than the latter, and it might even be more specific than that.
, what Rodgers wants most of all … is Packers GM Brian Gutekunst to get the boot.
The reignꦯing league MVP remains adamant that he won’t return to the team under the current stewardship of general manager Brian Gutekunst, a source in Rodgers’ camp said, and that he’s willing to weigh hardline options at his disposal — from refusing to show up for offseason activities to holding out of training camp and possibly retirement.
Asked🐽 if anything could be done to rep💙air the relationship between Rodgers and the team, the source said a reconciliation may not be possible if Gutekunst remains and that team president Mark Murphy is aware of the quarterback’s feelings about the general manager.
“The ball is in Mark’s court,” the source said.
Wow. So the implication here from Rodgers’ camp is that, to even have a chance at patching things up and working out a new deal, the Packers first have to fire the GM that has evidently so thoroughly chapped Rodgers. On the one hand, the franchise quarterback is the franchise quarterback. On the other hand, it’s kind of a crappy way to operate.
Rodgers, of course, remains upset that the Packers – under Gutekunst – decided to use their first rounder on QB Jordan Love last year, all without discussing a transition plan with Rodgers. The team had no interest in giving him a real extension, he then balls out in 2020, and is now fully in eff you mode.
So, what will the Packers do?! Heck, I don’t really care, because I’m here for the drama! Keep it going! for the ugly, juicy bits behind the scenes.
