Is this about anything more than depth for the summer and potentially next season in a pinch? Almost certainly not. Rumors of a veteran QB addition have been circling the Packers for a few weeks now. But also … come on, it’s hilarious. There have been a ton of concerns over Aaron Rodgers’ happiness and future in Green Bay – stemming all the way back to the 2020 draft, in fact – and we’re talking about Blake freakin’ Bortles here.
How can you not crack a smile at the news?
Updated: Packers are signing veteran QB Blake Bortles today, pe꧋r source.

Sure, it’s *possible* that the Packers are going to (be forced to) move on from Rodgers, making Bortles the primary back-up to 2020 first-round QB Jordan Love, but that’s just probably not what this is. At most, I suspect, Bortles could be Tim Boyle’s replacement as the de-facto QB2 — behind Rodgers and ahead of a clearly still developing Love.
But still, the fact that the Packers are bringing Blake Bortles into their quarterbacks room after Bears fans spent the last four years hearing jeers from their rivals about their QB being Bortlesesque? That’s RICH. And if Football Karma™ really goes to work, Bortles will end up taking meaningful snaps at some point this season.
