If Aaron Rodgers leaves the Packers, Davante Adams said he would have to do “some extra thinking” about sticking around.
And if it comes to it, Adams’ former college teammate sounds ready to make him think that much harder about his future.
Adams, 28, is entering the final year of an extension that was drawn up in 2017. And if Green Bay can’t do it again, Adams could become a free agent after the 2021 season ends. Should it come to that, Raiders quarterback Derek Carr appears ready to hit the recruiting trail to reel in his former college teammate:
From ➡️? all in and ready to recruit when the time comes. I think we all want to see Adams, Carr, and battle on the course 😂
— Bri Mellon (@BriMellonTV)
“He’s the best receiver in the NFL. The guy is unbelievable. He’s been one of my best friends since we were in college together. I love the guy,” Carr told ABC 30’s Bri Mellon. “I would always welcome playing with him again. I think it would unlock some things in both of us the people haven’t seen yet. I will be recruiting very hard. When that time comes, it will be a full-court press.”
Some players try to slyly hide their intent when it comes to situations like the one Carr is talking about with Adams. But Carr isn’t one of those people. And who can blame him? Carr’s best pass-catcher the last two seasons has been tight end Darren Waller. Bringing in an old college teammate from Carr’s Fresno State days seems like a dream scenario. Especially when the receiver position has been a revolving door of mediocrity since Amari Cooper left. Sure, Henry Ruggs III’s future looks bright. However, the potential could be limitless if he gets to pair with Adams. And as a Bears fan who loves reunion specials, I’m all for this opportunity!
Of course, I don’t imagine the Raiders are the only team drooling over the idea of snatching Adams out of Green Bay. As if folks around the league were needing more reasons to root for further uncertainty when it comes to the Packers’ quarterbacking position. Then again, it’s probably too early to go down that path. Especially since the Packers could still extend Adams if things click in 2021. Even if they don’t, the team could ultimately hand him the Franchise Tag for the 2022 campaign.
N💦evertheless, th𝕴e vultures are already circling Green Bay. So, get your popcorn ready. This show could get GOOD.
