With as many GM candidates as the Bears have been reaching 𝐆out to, some are bound to stand out above the rest.
Almost by definition, each interviewee has an interesting background or has gone through a compelling climb or can – at least – make a real case why they should be running the show in Chicago. But not everything is out there in the public. NFL teams are notoriously conservative when it comes to peeling back the curtain. For better or worse, plenty of NFL teams treat football operations as if they were nuclear codes.
But, thankfully, the Cleveland Browns were kind enough to provide an online morsel that gives us some extra background on Bears GM candidate Glenn Cook. It’s just a two-minute clip, but it is an informative, informational, and entertaining snapshot:
It was pretty cool to watch this video where Cook provides insight and perspective into what goes into his job. Not all🐼 candidates have this type of exposure that can be brought into our discussion. Part of that has to do with how few teams willingly share stuff like this for public consumption. And while this video is from 2016, it still provides worthwhile background on Cook and his job responsibilities. That Cook has since been promoted in the years that have come after this video speaks to his ability to complete necessary tasks and grow. Again, these are small things. But as we know, the little things tend to add up o𝐆ver time. Hence, this is fascinating to me.
In the end, watching this brief clip reminds me how much I wish the Bears were willing to share these type of videos. Don’t get me wrong. I understand the hesitance to do so. But it sure would be nice if the Bears took it easy and gave fans a peek behind the curtain. Being closed off and treating everything like it’s the world’s biggest secret hasn’t given this franchise any competitive advantage. So why not change course? What’s the worst that can happen?
