Back in May, there was a report that NFL owners were “counting votes” to see i🐼f they could round up enough suppဣort to give Washington Commanders owner Daniel Snyder the boot.
So while nothing has shaken out since that report, there hasn’t been much to counter the idea that Snyder has to go.
At today’s NFL’s Fall League Meetings, that conversation finds a new jumping-off point with Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay speaking up and telling reporters that (1) “there is merit” to ousting Snyder as an owner and (2) there could be 24 owners willing to vote him out of the club.
Ian Rapoꩵport nails it by calling this a bombshell:

It’s not that I didn’t expect there to be pushback against Snyder. But I wasn’t expecting one of the league’s most prominent and influential owners to publicly state that Snyder has to go. But maybe I should have. After all, it’s not as if Snyder hasn’t given reasons for the league to push him out the door. There were reports of Snyder and the team engaging in “potentially unlawful financial conduct” and cooking the books. There was a subpoena, which Snyder spent much of the summer dodging. Recent reporting that makes Snyder look like some sort of made-man because he is dangling blackmail against the NFL’s commissioner (and team owners around the league) was mind-bending. But it also could serve as the last straw:
Irsay has somewhat of a checkered past. Which is what makes🍌 his assertion that Snyder has to go ꦬthat much bolder. And that it comes shortly after the team feels awfully significant.
In the end, this is a situation worth monitoring. Could a collection of owners shove out one of their contemporaries? Stay🐷 🥂tuned.
