Encouraging Updates on Bills Safety Damar Hamlin

After days without much of an u𝐆pdate on the status of Bills safety Damar Hamlin, incredibly encouraging reporಞts are beginning to surface this afternoon.

One update even has Hamlin awake and responsive, and although not able to speak yet, he asked who won Monday night’s game through writing last night.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero tweeted within the last hour that Dr. Timothy Pritts from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center says there has been substantial improvement in Damar Hamlin’s condition in the past 24 hours.

Pelissero says that UC Health physician Dr. William Knight IV has this to say about Hamlin this af🃏ternoon:

“It’s been a long and difficult roa🌃d for the past few days. He has been very sick and has made a fairly remarkable improvement.”

According to Pelissero, Hamlin is now showing positive vital signs and organ recovery and will undergo a workup of tests to determine the cause of the injury. However, according to Dr. Knight, the immediate recognition of a serious situation and the loss of a pulse by the Bills’ medical staff was critical in Hamlin’s survival.

Dr. Knight says he and his team are “focused on the long-term recovery right now. … He has a ways to go with liberation from the ventilator.” Regarding whether football could be in Hamlin’s future, Dr. Knight said that it is “entirely too early to have that conversation.”

Adam Schefter shared the nugget about Hamlin asking last night who won Monday night’s Bills-Bengals game:

The Athletic has more on Hamlin’s encouraging progress in the last 24 hours and details on the medical staff at UC Health in Cincinnati’s estimation that the Bills training staff saved his life during the nine minutes he was down on the field at Paycor Stadium.
