The Chicago Bears are compiling quite a list of candidates for their open offensive coordinator position. University of Kentucky offensive coordinator Liam Coen joins Shane Waldron and Klint Kubiak as known candidates for the job opening in Chi🐠𓄧cago.
on the latest Be🌼ars offensive coordinatoꦆr candidate:
Coen’s name is an interesting one, in part because he is a college assistant. Kentucky is not a traditional SEC power, but the football team in recent years has let it be known that the Wildcats do more than play basketball. It’ll be interesting to dive into Coen’s résume when the time comes.
Who is Liam Coen?
Coen currently serves as the University of Kentucky’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He also has two stints coaching in the NFL — both with the Los Angeles Rams. Both of those are recent, too. Coen was first with the Rams from 2018-2020 as the team’s Assistant Wide Receivers Coach (2018-19) and Assistant Quarterbacks Coach (2020) before leaving for Kentucky the first time to be the OC and QBs Coach. He would return to Los Angeles in 2022 as the offensive coordinator before leaving again for UK’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach positions. What an odd series of events.
The allure of Coen might be rooted in his coaching experience with Sean McVay. There is no denying that the Mc🎀Vay effect has had a role in Rams assistants accelerating through the hiring process to get promotions. But Coen also has recent college experience that can work in his favor. Not only did he work with Will Levis before he became a household name as a draft prospect, but he also had his eyes on all sorts of top talent while coaching in the SEC. At a minimum, the Bears should be able to pick his brain and maybe get some background on players who could be on their radar.
We’ll continue to monitor the Bears potential candidates list and update it when we can.
