We’re adding a new name to the list of Chicago Bears offensive coordinator candidates.
Long-time NFL reporter (now currently in a role as San Francisco Chronicle columnist) of the Bears interviewing Seattle Seahawks Quarterbacks Coach Greg Olson for the job vacated by Luke Getsy’s dismissal:
The Chicago Bears haven’t wasted time piling up the offensive coordinator interview candidates. It began with the team reportedly requesting interviews with Seattle Seahawks Offensive Coordinator S🎃ꩲhane Waldron and San Francisco 49ers Passing Game Coordinator Klint Kubiak to get the ball rolling. And as the weekend got underway, a report surfaced connecting the Bears as a team planning to int🍎ꦛerview Kentucky Offensive Coordinator Liam Coen. And now, Greg Olson joins the list — a𝓰s someone who has already interviewed for the position.
Who is Greg Olson?
Greg Olson, , currently serves as the Seattle Seahawks’ quarterbacks coach. And with Pete Carroll out in Seattle, his former assistants are open for interviews elsewhere. So it should come as little surprise that two Bears offensive coordinator candidates are Seahawks assistants.
Beyond his time in Seattle, Olson has all sorts of pro coaching experience. This is a brief🌠 l𒈔ook at his previous stops:
Olsen has held all sorts of titles along the way. He was an offensive coordinator (Lions, Rams, Bucs, Raiders), quarterbacks coach (49ers, Bears, Bucs, Jaguars, Rams), assistant head coach (Jaguars), and senior offensive assistant (Rams). That work history is quite a journey. I suppose the same can be said about his collegiate experience. Olson was Purdue’s quarterbacks coach when Drew Brees was slinging it and setting record for the Boilermakers. The guy has been doing it for a while, to say the least.
I’m still trying to figure out the fit here for Olson and the Bears. He has ample experience coaching quarterbacks and as an offensive coordinator. But on the surface, there aren’t any offenses he has served as a coordinator for that have me aching for him to have an interview in Chicago. This will likely require a deeper dive before I take a stronger stance on this Bears offensive coordinator candidate. We’ll dig deeper into Olson’s résumé later.
