I got a chuckle out of seeing Luke Getsy’s name pop up as a Raiders offensive coordinator candidate. And with the Bears set on Shane Waldron (he’s already lining up interviews for staffers) as the🐻ir new OC, we can pivot to keeping tabs on what is happening elsewhere in the NFL.
This means, yes, we’ll be watching what happens with Luke Getsy with great interest. on Getsy garnering interest from the Las Vegas Raiders:

So … why are the Raiders chopping it up with Luke Getsy? That is a fair question to ask. And let it be known that you are not alone in wondering. After all, that was the first thing that came into my mind when I saw the initial reports. Sometimes, there is a convoluted answer to these questions. But this is not one of them. For me, this is as simple as the Raiders are likely doing background work on Bears quarterback Justin Fields.
Don’t get me wrong. I understand Getsy and Fields wouldn’t be a schematic fit. But the Raiders using an OC interview with Getsy to pick his brain regarding Fields is a sensible line of thinking. Just as it was when the Bears were interviewing Kliff Kingsbury to get additional background on USC quarterback Caleb Williams. Few people know Fields as intimately as Getsy does after the last two seasons in Chicago. What is said during any meeting with Getsy and Raiders brass could shape how they v꧂iew a potential pursuit of Fields. And if not Fields, any number of other quarterbacks in the offseason.
I think the Raiders are doing recon work on Justin Fields by interviewing Luke Getsy
But I’ll keep it real with you: Justin Fields makes so much sense as a Raiders quarterback target. And while I’m not ready to send him packing just yet, I can see why the folks in Vegas would want to put out some feelers.
Firstly, the Vegas football team needs change, and Fields could use a fresh start. That is a potential win-win scenario for both sides. Secondly, Fields would represent an upgrade from Jimmy Garoppolo and Aidan O’Connell. There is no denying Fields has untapped potential. Thirdly, bringing on Fields would keep the Raiders competitive in a tough AFC West while not handcuffing the team for the long term. And finally, Fields fits the Raiders’ mindset of being tough with something to prove. Plus, Fields would look cool in silver and black. Aesthetically, the Raiders have some of the coolest jerseys in football. Raiders jerseys weren’t popping up in 1990s and 2000s rap videos because they were practical.
And, for what it’s worth, in a January 14 mock draft. In Schrock’s mock, he has the Bears sending Fields to the Raiders in exchange for Las Vegas’ 2024 second-round pick (44th overall) and a 2024 fourth-rounder (which looks to be 112th overall). Would that pique your interest as a Bears fan? Should the Bears be holding out for something more? Or should they not even entertain the idea of shopping Fields?
In the end, the Las Vegas Raiders are in an interesting spot. That was a competitive team after they launched former head coach Josh McDaniels i𓆏nto parts unknown. And retaining Head Coach Antonio Pierce helps the team maintain continuity while simultaneously positioning the squad to be com﷽petitive in 2024.
However, the Raiders don’t have a clear or obvious path to a quarterback upgrade. They have the 13th overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft and probably aren’t in a place to take a big swing at a free agent like Kirk Cousins. In other words, Vegas will need to be creative if it intends to upgrade at quarterback.
And that is where this whole Luke Getsy-Justin Fi🍰elds connection ꦬcomes into play.
