For as much fun as I’ve had enjoying this season of “Hard Knocks” on HBO, something is missing.
And by “something” I mean the explicit language that tends pop up throughout the course of a day in the life of football players, coaches, and staffers. This has been an awfully clean first three episodes of Hard Knocks, and now we know why (via CHGO’s Adam Hoge):
Words from Hard Knocks lead director Sh🍃annon Furman:
“This team curses much less than any other team I’ve been around. But it is out of respect for the McCaskey family. It is something they don’t do and wouldn’t want to see it. So just it’s been a decision that was made out of respect to them letting us in their house and being respectful to them.”
And there it is! An explanation as to why this hasn’t been a profanity-laden season of Hard Knocks.
HBO and Hard Knocks are keeping it clean
For those of you who have been wond🔯ering, I have to ask: Are yo𒀰u satisfied with the answer?
It hadn’t been something on my mind until some folks brought it up to me in DMs and text messages. I hadn’t given it two thoughts. Frankly, it doesn’t move me one way or another that there is or isn’t cussin’ on the show. With that being said, I got a good chuckle out of Hard Knocks Director Shannon Furman making a mention that this Bears team doesn’t curse a lot. I don’t think Chicago’s football team is full of choir boys. However, if keeping your language clean is something that flows down from the top and throughout the organization, then I am choosing to see this as everyone in the franchise showing respect to the top bosses.
A profanity-free workspace wouldn’t be the weirdest thing in sports. After all, York Yankees’ still exists in 2024. It doesn’t get much odder than that in terms of organization-specific oddball rules. In any case, kudos to HBO for doing something on the respectful side of things. The network probably didn’t need to clean things up, but I can appreciate someone acknowledging a minor team request out of respect. Maybe we should all take this as a sign that we should be more respectful to each other.
CHICAGO BEARS HARD KNOCKS EPISODE 3: Recap and🅘 Best Moments
In the end, I’m happy we got some sort of explanation. Maybe it is more relief for me than anything. Having to answer weird questions about odd things without having an answer that is suitable for you, dear reader, makes me itchy. I want to give you all the info I can when I have it. Now that this ordeal is over, what random oddity are you going to inquire about next?
