Caleb Williams won’t play in tonight’s preseason finale.
And I’m cool with that.
The Chicago Bears rook𒀰ie quarterback finishes the💙 exhibition slate with the following stat line:
Nothing to write home about here, but that will change in 17 days or so when Williams and the rest of the Bears take the field for the regular-season opener against the Tennessee Titans. As you might expect, there will be ample motivation to get off on the right foot — especially after stumbling out of the gate last year. Caleb Williams wasn’t a part of that team, but his arrival has us hoping that history won’t repeat itself in 2024. And if QB1 needs any more fuel to his fire, all he’ll have to do is look in his screenshots folder.
In , Williams discusses (among other things) motivational factors — incl💟uding one such tactic inspired by NBA star LeBron James:
“The other part, and this feeds into knowing myself, is all ath൲letes try to act like they♍ don’t see it. I see it, and I use it,” Williams says. “I take screenshots of people. People don’t know it. I have notes and things that I screenshot. I save the links, all of that. I use it.”
“There’s always something,” he continues. “LeBron [James] always says, and has said before, he only needs one thing. He wal⛎ks into the stadium, all he needs is one fan, one thing through the week or before thܫe game. Some of it is motivation and some of it is psyching yourself out. That’s the other part. It’s knowing myself. It’s knowing what I like to know, how I like to do things. I know how hard I work. I know the confidence that I have, from my work that I’ve put in for many, many years now.”
In other words: Be careful what🎉 you say because Caleb Williams can (and will) use it against you.
There is a ton of good stuff in the Breer story, and I hope you take some time to immerse yourself in it. If you’re looking to get to know Caleb Williams better, that is the kind of thing you’ll want to read between now and Week 1.
Caleb Williams: “There was a lot of bullshit out there”
You’d think that the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft wouldn’t need the extra juice. However, there is a part of me that appreciates petty behavior from highly skilled athletes.
As someone who grew up watching Michael Jordan turn every slight (both real and perceived) and use it to push him toward greatness, I’m down to see the Chicago Bears quarterback channel that energy. And thanks to social media, there is no shortage of bulletin board material to choose from if you’re Caleb Williams. , who snagged this quote from QB1’s appearance on PMT’s podcast as he discussed the pre-draft silliness that was said about him.
“There was a lot of bullshit out there,” Williams said.
You can watch that interview in its entirety :
Bears fans have been waiting for ages to have a quarterback who talks the talk and walks the walk. Caleb Williams is the most talented of the signal callers who have tried their hand at making magic happen for a franchise that hasn’t had any good fortune when it comes to finding or developing a player at the most important position in sports. We won’t know for a while if Caleb is that dude. But I am looking forward to going on that journey with him — and with you, dear reader.
