🅷A trio of Chicago Bears are headed to🔥 injured reserve.
that running back Ian Wheeler, wide receiver Nsimba Webster and defensive back Douglas Coleman IIIare going on injured reserve. This is unfortunate news and unfortuante timing. I imagine the sting of getting hurt and going on injured reserve right as you’re trying to make a roster hits differently this time of year.
Three Chicago Bears land on injured reserve
The Ian Wheeler storyline was one of my favorites from the Chicago Bears’ season of “Hard Knocks” on HBO. An undradfted rookie out of Howard University, Wheeler was trying to grind his way onto the season-opening 53-player roster by winning a spot among the running backs or the return specialists. Unfortunately, Wheeler’s quest has come to an end due to an ACL injury he suffered during Thursday’s preseason game against the Kansas CIty Chiefs. We’ve seen so many players return from ACL injuries that it feels that folks sometimes get numb to the severity of the injury. I wish Wheeler a speedy recovery and hope to see him back at Bears camp next year.
Nsimba Webster has been on the fringe of a roster spot for the past few seasons. That Webster is one of the few remaining players from the Matt Nagy era of Bears football seems to speak volumes about his contributions as a depth player. A crowded receivers room would’ve made it tough for Webster to make it as WR5/6 in this group, but you didn’t have to squint to see a scenario in which he would’ve landed on the practice squad.
Douglas Coleman III was taken off the field on a stretcher during Thursday’s game against the Chiefs and was hospitalized, but has since been released . Coleman, 26, spent the last three years playing for the Canadian Football League’s Ottawa Redblacks. In 2019, Coleman was an All-Big 12 safety for his efforts at Texas Tech.
The Bears have until Tuesday to get their 90-man roster trimmed to 53.🧸 Putting three pla🎀yers on IR gets them a few steps closer to that number (albeit in a painful way).
