BOOM! Caleb Williams Has Already Earned Captain Status

The ꦏChicago Bears haꦅve announced their captains for the 2024 season.

A whopping eigh⭕t (!) players have earned captain status for the season.

Aᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚnd, yes, one of them is rookie quarterback Caleꦛb Williams.

Let that sink in for a minute.

Caleb Williams, who was drafted just this past April, has already earned the respect of his teammates enough for them to vote him into a captain’s role. We’ve come a long way since dealing with the nonsensical chatter that surrounded Williams’ arrival into the NFL.

T🍃he othe💧r Chicago Bears captains are here in shared by the team on its social media channels:

Who’s joining Caleb Williams as a Chicago Bears captain in 2024?

Here are the other seven players who will also wear the big “C” on their chest:

Wide receiver DJ Moore – Between his on-field play and vocal leadership, it was a lock that Moore would be a Bears captain for a second straight season. WR1 has set the bar high for this 🌺team in 2024 — ℱ;and with good reason.

Cornerback Jaylon Johnson -Jaylon has been through the grind with the Bears. Two different head coaches, four different defensive coordinators, eight quarterbacks, and too many losses that I’d rather not count up right now. And yet, Johnson has been consistently superb. CB1 exemplifies everything you’d want out of a captain. He is fearless, and bold, and plays with a chip on his shoulder. It is easy to understand how he earned captaincy.

Tight end Cole Kmet – It’s about time Kmet was given the big “C” on his chest. Kmet is a leader whose play has gotten better every year. Sure, the numbers stand out when you look back at how far Kmet has come as a player. But the thing I admire most about him is that he seems to get better in different aspects of a nuanced position. It’s impressive. Younger players should follow that lead.

Linebacker T.J. Edwards – Even though his signing was overshadowed by fellow linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, Edwards’ addition looks like a free-agency steal. Edwards led the Bears in total tackles and solo tackles while racking up the third-most tackles-for-loss and fifth-most quarterback hits. The Chicagoland product was a stat-sheet stuffer, defensive leader in 2023, and Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award nominee. And now, he is a captain.

Linebacker Tremaine Edmunds – This is the second consecutive year in which Edmunds has had captain’s status with the Bears. Edmunds embraced the underdog mentality of the rebuilding Bears upon arrival in 2023, won the coveted Ballhawk Award from Head Coach Matt Eberflus, and struck up a relationship with Dick🐽 Butkus before his passing.

Safety Kevin Byard – At age 31, Byard is the senior member of the Bears’ secondary. And even though he hasn’t taken a snap with the Bears, Byard gets to be a captain. Two things stand out when you take a quick look at the safety’s résumé: Durability (he’s missed just one game since the start of the 2020 season) and playmaking skills (10 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles over the last three years.

Tight end Marcedes Lewis – Last, but not least is the veteran tight end. Lewis re-signed with the Bears in June and is so beloved and respected by teammates that he is one of the team’s eight captains. If you’re someone who digs it when a player brings intangibles to the player, then I’d bet you have an appreciation for Marcedes Lewis — who certainly does that for this team.
