Jordan Love Injured During Packers Week 1 Loss vs. Eagles (UPDATE)

The Green Bay Packers lost the first-ever game in Brazil, but the loss of quarterback Jordan Love to an iꦆ☂njury looms overhead.

On the Packers’ final drive, Love suffered a leg injury on this play:

()

Ick. That looks nasty. It is the type of injury that makes me glad that Love signed a big-money extension ahead of the start of this season because … OUCH. I would not recommend watching (or re-watching) that video if you happen to be scrolling through this while you’re eating breakfast.

UPDATE (2:38 p.m. CT): reports it is believed that Jordan Love has suffered an MCL injury. And while it isn’t expected to be of the season-ending variety, it sounds like Love will miss some games. More testing is pending, per Schefty. A timetable for Love’s return remains up in the air.

UPDATE (3:04 p.m. CT): from NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero has Jordan Love’s return is 3-6 weeks. All things considered, that is the best news you can hope for when it comes to an injury that looked as bad as that tone did last night.

Jordan Love injury updates to follow

Here’s the latest on the Jordan Love injury front:

that the initial round of testing shows that Jordan Love’s ACL is still intact. So Love and the team can breathe a sigh of relief on that front. However, as Pelissero points out, there is still some uncertainty regarding the injury and further testing will determine the injury and its severity. The nerves will be on another level in Wisconsin until more details are revealed. We’ll revisit this post when those updates hit the wire.

Before the injury, Jordan Love was having a nice game. He completed 17 of 34 passes, threw for 260 yards, tossed a pair of touchdowns, and had one interception. Who knows what that line would’ve looked like had he finished the game healthy. Malik Willis, who Green Bay just traded for a few weeks ago, took over to throw the game’s last pass. Unless the Packers go in a different direction (for instance, sign Ryan Tannehill off the street) at quarterback, it’ll be Willis playing in place of Jordan Love. That is quite the drop-off (even if Willis’ raw tools are tantalizing and could be impactful if given proper coaching and development time).

Jordan Love is coming off a season in which he threw for 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns while posting a 96.1 passer rating. Putting up monster numbers in his first full year as a starter helped propel him to a record-setting extension in Green Bay and locked him in as a main antagonist for the Chicago Bears, the other teams in the NFC North, and the NFL’s other squads. If Love is out for an extended period of time, it could shape what happens in the division race and conference championship picture. The Packers were among the favorites to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. Not having Jordan Love under center would change the forecast until further notice.
