Not that this is coming as much of a surprise, but there is some good news to report on wit🦩h the Chicago Bears pass-rusher Montez Sweat.
that Sweat is expected to play against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Sweat practiced with limitations throughout the week because of a toe injury and was listed as questionable to play in Week 1 when Friday’s injury report dropped. But when I saw Sweat go from limited on Wednesday and Thursday to full participation on Saturday, I had a feeling that this was how it would turn out on Sunday morning. However, I know better than to take anything for granted — especially when it comes to Bears injuries.
Bears fans have been over the moon dreaming about upcoming debuts for newcomers such as rookies Caleb Williams, Rome Odunze, and Tory Taylor, as well as vets including Keenan Allen and D’Andre Swift. But let’s not lose sight of Montez Sweat, who is making his first Week 1 start with Chicago’s football team. Sweat collected 6 sacks and 14 quarterback hits in nine games with the Bears last year as his arrival spearheaded what was an inspired late-season defensive turnaround. Now, we get to see the Pro Bowl defensive get after it in Week 1. I’d feel bad for opposing starting quarterbacks if they weren’t playing against my favorite team.
The vibes are good around Montez Sweat and the Bears. I imagine it’s a stark difference in terms of feeling compared to the toxic, losing culture that Sweat left behind in Washington.
Montez Sweat Week 1 status update
Getting positive news on the Montez Sweat injury front after getting word last night that wide receiver Keenan Allen was expected to play despite his injury status and game-day designation being “questionable” has brought a 1-2 punch of positive vibes this morning. Now, we are left to wait on a couple of other injured Bears. For instance, will defensive end DeMarcus Walker suit up after being limited in consecutive practices with a groin issue? Can fellow DE Darrell Taylor give it a go after missing practice time with a foot injury?
Stay tuned. There is more to come this morning.
