I have a love-hate relationship with the Chicago Bears playing on Sunday Night Football. On the one hand, playing in prime time means I can spend my Sunday afternoon however I please. But on the other hand, waiting all day for Sunday night can feel arduous. This is why my favorites are those noon and 3:25 p.m. CT starts. But I digress. Let’s dive into Bullets.
Lunch with a friend will cause me to miss the early batch of the NFL’s Sunday slate. If you’re watching in a traditional fashion, this is what will be at your disposal before today’s Bears game kicks off:
In case you missed it: It sure sounds like Rome Odunze is going to play today. We dissected the latest bit of news this morning. And while I don’t love how it makes some feel like there is a greater chance of Keenan Allen sitting out (or being limited) than I previously expected, the news regarding Rome’s knee is more encouraging than I would’ve thought it was going to be on game day. No matter how you slice it, I’m looking forward to seeing how the Bears bounce back from a woeful offensive showing in Week 1.
NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport gives us a peek into the Bears’ psyche when it comes to rookie quarterback Caleb Williams heading into Week 2:
“They believe in his character. They believe in his fight. They believe in the person. They know that when things have gone bad for him, he has bounced back as he needed. They expect exactly the same for the Bears.”
Chicago’s QB1 completed just 48.3 percent of his passes for 93 yards. He didn’t throw any touchdowns, but he threw no interceptions and had no fumbles. OK, so some of those batted balls could’ve been interceptions if the ball bounced in a different way. Heck, those are probably interceptions in an alternate timeline and the way we’re discussing things heading into tonight’s matchup is very different. Maybe we should be thankful not to be living in that alternate universe.
Offensive Coordinator Shane Waldron has been tasked to help take Caleb’s game to another level. Over at the Chicago Tribune, as they enter their second regular-season game together.
“Shane Waldron is on fraud watch” isn’t something I didn’t expect to hear this morning:
Speaking of offensive coordinators, I wasn’t sure what to do with this tweet so I decided just to share it here and hope it hits the right audience:
For me, I’m seeing the tweet above as a sign that Luke Getsy was so in over his head as a first-time play-caller that he forgot to use motion. Or it is a sign that he didn’t trust Justin Fields to know how to operate in such a scheme. In either case, what a misfit pairing that turned out to be. No matter how things fare with Caleb Williams moving forward, I’m glad we’re not dealing with that dance any more.
Something to keep an eye on when it comes to the enemy: Texans starting center Juice Scruggs has a groin injury he’ll need to test before game time. If he can’t go, has Houston going to backup Jarrett Patterson.
The Ja’Marr Chase situation continues to be a masterclass in how not to handle the extension situation for your star wide receiver. ()
Urlacher, eh? We’re familiar with that name around these parts:
