Keep Caleb Clean, Belichick’s Beef, That Crazy Mahomes INT Stat, and Other Bears Bullets

Every look back at the Bears’ Week 2 loss has me looking forward that much more to the team’s Week 3 showdown against the Colts. I’m so ready to turn the page.

  • Mike Jones () explores how the gulf between the Bears and Texans is far wider than the six-point spread in score from Week 2 indicates. It is a pretty sobering read for a Bears fan. But I think it is one that provides some perspective regarding a climb up the NFL pecking order that this franchise is still making. I’m not giving up on this season. But it is OK to take a step back to re-assess things.
  • The Chicago Bears should have one simple goal entering this week — and that is to keep rookie quarterback Caleb Williams clean:
  • No quarterback goes through an entire game clean. THere will be adversity. And there will be moments when Caleb needs to make something out of nothing. But if the Bears’ offensive line can come together to limit those dicey moments, they’ll have a shot to pick up a big road win against the Indianapolis Colts.
  • While the dudes in the trenches still have a tall task ahead of them, their jobs will be a tad bit easier knowing that Indy’s stud defensive tackle DeForest Buckner is on injured reserve and won’t play. The Bears appear to be catching a break. But a break is only that when you make the most of it.
  • Are you sure we’re not living in a simulation?
  • Sigh. It’s true. The NFL’s 2024 draft class of rookie quarterbacks still doesn’t have a touchdown pass. Now that I’m thinking about it, Caleb Williams has thrown a successful two-point conversion attempt before tossing a touchdown pass. Has that ever happened before?
  • Some people insist on making mountains out of molehills out of this video snippet that catches a post-game exchange between C.J. Stroud and Caleb Williams:
  • I am not one of those people. Frankly, anyone trying to make something out of nothing here is probably more focused on sparking something within you that will help make them some easy dollars off your rage engagement. My friendly tip of the day: Don’t fall for the bait.
  • Oh, you thought Bill Belichick was critical of Bears GM Ryan Poles? He didn’t hold bak when analyzing the Atlanta Falcons, who chose not to hire him this offseason:
  • If Belichick ever faces the Falcons again, you better believe he is going to try to coach the game of his life against that franchise. I hope it happens because I love a good grudge match. Here’s hoping the NFL powers that be put that one in primetime.
  • This stopped me in my tracks when I saw it cross my timeline yesterday:
  • There was a thread of Patrick Mahomes interceptions that were overturned by penalties that was going viral. As is often the case with many viral snapshots, there is a worthwhile explanation that makes the situation less absured than the original poster would’ve ever imagined. dissecting the plays made me laugh out loud when I finished it.
  • Also: Twitter user before the season and found out that Mahomes leads the NFL in touchdowns nuliffied by penalties. What a dichotomy!

    MORE BLEACHER NATION:  |

  • It looks like Michael Jordan is finally about to sell his Highland Park mansion. I’m curious to know who the buyer is here. It certainly isn’t me. Caleb? Rome? DJ? (BN Bulls)
  • Over at BN’s hockey department, the Chicago Blackhawks announced their preseason broadcast schedule.
  • As a Chicago Bears fan, I have an appreciation for defensive excellence:
