Billings is a Baller, DJ’s Regret, CJ Sounds Off, Trench Concerns, and Other Bears Bullets

Maybe it’s because the Bears ended late on Sunday, but this week feels like it has flown by.

  • I’m not sure where to start this set of Bears Bullets, so let’s begin by celebrating Dan Hampton’s 67th birthday by sharing from the folks at the Pro Football Hall of Fame:
  • For as much time as we spent groveling about the defensive line, that side of the line of scrimmage has been ballin’ out. DeMarcus Walker, Montez Sweat, Gervon Dexter Sr., and Andrew Billings have really held it down in the first two weeks. With depth players such as Darrell Taylor and Zacch Pickens also contributing, Chicago can truly attack with waves of defenders. This could keep guys fresh for late-game stretches, which would be a welcome sign considering how fourth-quarter collapses were a recurring theme last season.
  • Speaking of Andrew Billings, this data from PFF was eye-opening:
  • The Billings extension was sneaky good when it happened. But it isn’t even sneaky good anymore. It’s just plain good. Kudos to Bears GM Ryan Poles for sticking the landing. You can hang a star on that one.
  • I’ll admit that I smiled when this first crossed my timeline…
  • … and then I remembered how the Browns dominated the Bears in the fourth quarter with Joe Flacco putting up crazy numbers and that the Packers could’ve scored more than 17 in the season-finale had they not constantly tripped over their own junk. The Falcons were checked out and led by Desmond Ridder in the snow. The Vikings were quarterbacked by Joshua Dobbs and were without Justin Jefferson. Kyler Murray and the Cardinals were playing out the string. Yes, the Bears still performed well. I don’t want to take that away from them, but I do want to keep perspective and context in mind when we look at numbers like the one Sharp drops above.
  • Sure, the Bears offensive line is in shambles (and changes are NOT coming) … but could help be on the way via the 2025 NFL Draft? I think we’ll want to stash these names away for a rainy day:
  • Patrick Finley () writes the Bears have no choice but to stick with the offensive line they’re currently trotting out. I understand where the sentiment is coming from, but I respectfully disagree. I’ve even offered up some alternative options.
  • Kevin Fishbain () looks at the All-22 film and explains why the Bears can’t run the dang ball.
  • Oof! This lower left quadrant is a who’s who of failed Bears coaches:
  • Choose your fighter, Bears fan. John Shoop? Matt Cavanaugh. Ron Turner. John DeFilippo. Dowell Loggains. Marc Trestman. Pep Hamilton. Do you remember when there were people in the comments section here who were disappointed that the Bears didn’t hire Pat Shurmur as the head coach to replace John Fox?
  • I don’t think C.J. Stroud needs to explain anything, but this is what happens when people who have too much free time on their hands and don’t have the ability to use it creatively try to make something out of nothing:
  • As you might expect, Bears receiver DJ Moore has some regrets about how his body language looked in the wake of the loss to the Texans. ()
  • MORE BLEACHER NATION:  |

  • The Chicago Bulls’ new City Edition jersey leaked and … you know what, I’ll let you decide for yourself. (BN Bulls)
  • Over at BN Blackhawks, Tab lines up which position battles to watch at training camp.
