Following the seemingly never-ending practice squad roster churn is one of my guilty pleasures after the regular season kicks off for the Chicago Bears. Keeping tabs on the transactions on that front keeps me on my toes and informed on what players are aꦰvailable.
Here is the latest from the Beaꦫrs, who are shaking things up on the practice squad:
The New England Patriots signed defensive end Jamree Kromah off the Bears’ practice squad and onto their 53-man roster. Kromah was part of Chicago’s undrafted free agent signing class and made it on the practice squad after being cut at the end of the preseason. The Bears’ defensive line situation feels more settled now than it did when Kromah was added to the practice squad, so I don’t think this team is going to feel the sting of his loss. With that being said, I wish Kromah well in New England. If he succeeds, we can count that as a scouting win for Bears GM Ryan Poles and his staff — right?
news of the team adding wide receiver John Jackson to their practice squad. Jackson, who signed with the Bears as a UDFA this past offseason, played his college ball at USC with rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. I don’t know if this is one of those moves made to appease QB1, but I don’t hate it if it means Chicago’s signal caller has a familiar face to throw to during practice — especially with Keenan Allen not participating and Rome Odunze practicing on a limited basis.
the Bears also brought in defensive lineman Dashaun Mallory onto the practice squad. Mallory, an Arizona State product who played his high school ball in suburban Bolingbrook, spent some time with the Bears during the preseason. He fills the vacancy left behind when long snapper Scott Daly was added to the active roster last week.
Chicago Bears practice squad update
This is what the Beꦬars practice squad looks like going into Week 3:
Micah Baskerville, linebacker
Theo Benedet, offensive lineman
Stephen Carlson, tight end
Byron Cowart, defensive lineman
Jake Curhan, offensive lineman
Chris Glaser, offensive lineman
John Jackson, wide receiver
Collin Johnson, wide receiver
Carl Jones, linebacker
Dashaun Mallory, defensive lineman
Tarvarius Moore, defensive back
Austin Reed, quarterback
Sam Roberts, defensive lineman
Reddy Steward, cornerback
Ro Torrence, defensive back
Samori Toure, wide receiver
But don’t get too used to it, friends. This could change at the drop of a hat.
