On Monday afternoon, the Hockey Hall of Fame announced its 2022 induction class, which will highlight the achieveme♛nts of three important members of the Vancouver Canucks while they were heated rivals of the Chicago Blackhawks.
Daniel and Henrik Sedin will be joined in Toronto by goaltender Roberto Luongo for the ceremony in November. They will be joined as inductees by Daniel Alfredsson, Riikka Sallinen and builder Herb Carnegie.
As we outlined in our Friday Trade Tree for Connor Murphy, the Blackhawks played an important role in the Sedin brothers arriving in Vancouver꧅ together. Chicago owned the fourth overall pick in 1999 NHL Draft, which then-Canucks GM Brian Burke needed to get a package together and get his hands on picks No. 2 and 3 to pick the brothers💞. Daniel went second; Henrik went third. The rest is history in Vancouver.
The news that Steve Larmer is once again left outside the Hall of Fame is disappointing, but we’ll continue barnstorming for his induction in the future. With Alfredsson going in, the case for Larmer has yet another strong comparable. But the voting group of 18, which remains without any social interaction or accountability, passed on Larmer again this year.
