New Blackhawks forward Corey Perry met with the media in Chicago for the first time on Friday. I appreciate that Perry is pretty realistic about who he is and where his career is at right now. Perry was asked about Connor Bedard coming into the league and how his presence may help deter some shenanigans. “This league’s not easy. Coming in at 18 years old, he’s gonna have things that he hasn’t seen before, playing against men and all these different things. That’s why you have to do what you have to do, and that’s kinda what’s kept me in the league.”
Perry was also pretty straight forward about his relationship with the Blackhawks and the fans in this town until this specific point in time. But he’s ready to earn cheers where there have previously been boos.
I dropped my new Top 30 Blackhawks prospect rankings yesterday. I know we had some technical difficulties on the site yesterday as we work on a new site design, so here’s the link again in case you missed it. Let me know what you think!
Filip Zadina’s buyout is secure. He’s now a completely free agent. There has been a lot of talk about him as a player the Blackhawks could take a chance on. I’ve said this before but… we’ve done the Alex Nylander thing before. And yeah, Kyle Davidson turned him into Sam Lafferty, but that entire experiment was a disaster. Do we want the Blackhawks to try that again? Just because a guy was a high draft pick doesn’t mean he’s worthy of that spot today. General manager make mistakes. If Steve Yzerman thought enough of the kid to outright punt him, is that a guy you want here?
Still playing GM at home and trying to find a RHD upgrade for the Blackhawks? Well, here are your remaining options. I guess this is why the Blackhawks haven’t put Nikita Zaitsev through waivers to buy him out yet? Or won’t?
Old friend alert! Vinnie Hinostroza got a deal done with the Penguins yesterday. Good for him!
Finally, it hasn’t been a great season for Jameson Taillon. But he was marvelous last night at Yankee Stadium, dusting off a throwback performance against his former teammates.
