There has been some talk recently about the battl🐽es between the Blackhawks and one of their new skaters during his long career. Which got me thinking: historically, who has tortured the Blackhawks the most?
In total, Gordie Howe has the most career points against the Blackhawks. He scored 169 goals with 179 assists for 348 points in 316 games against Chicago. His point total is 110 more than Maurice Richard, who posted 238 points in 192 games. In history (thus far), 34 players have posted at least 100 points against the Blackhawks. The final player among those 34: Wayne Gretzky’s 102.
Four players — Howe, Maurice Richard, Jean Beliveau and Alex Delvecchio — eclipsed 200 points against the Blackhawks in their careers. And only Howe and Rocket Richard scored at least 100 goals against the Hawks.
Howe also ranks first in game-winnꦇing goals against the Blackhawks all-time with 31, ten more than Delvecchio. He also ranks first in power play goals (45) and power play points (104) against the Hawks.
With a minimum of 50 games played against the Blackhawks, 36 players have averaged a full 1.0 point/game. Two of those 36 — Ray Bourque and Paul Coffey — are defensemen. As you might guess, the highest point-per-game average against Chicago over a player’s career belongs to Gretzky, who produced a ridiculous 102 points in 60 games against the Hawks (1.70 points/game).
Active Blackhawks Terrors
With this summer’s free agency largely complete, the top four active point producers at the expense of the Blackhawks will all be skating in Dallas this coming season. Joe Pavelski enters the new year with an even 50 points against the Blackhawks to lead the active scoresheet. He’s followed by Ryan Suter (49), Jamie Benn (45) and newly-signed Stars forward Matt Duchene (42).
New Blackhawks Corey Perry (36 points) ranks 11th and Taylor Hall (33) ra♋nks 16th among active skaters against Chicago.
It feels ridiculous to type, but the active leader in game-winning goals against the Blackhawks in the regular season is Tampa star Brayden Point. He has scored the game-winner five times in only 19 appearances against the Blackhawks. Keep that in mind if you’re of the betting variety when the two teams meet this coming season.
