Slaggert’s B1G Night, So Many Prospect Highlights, Slovakia’s WJC Roster, and Other Blackhawks Bullets

Hey it’s time for another weekend matinee for the Blackhawks. Chicago’s schedule is giving a couple division rivals their first look at Connor Bedard this weekend with trips to Winnipeg and Minnesota. They boys are in Winnipeg this afternoon for a 2 PM CT puck drop against the J-E-T-S Jets. Winnipeg has lost their last three in a row — after winning eight of their previous nine. Bedard finished November the NHL Rookie of the Month, but was limited to only one goal in his last eight games. But it wasn’t because he wasn’t trying; Bedard is coming off a career-high seven shots on net in Detroit. Hopefully he can find the back of the net this afternoon.

  • Bedard was in the news a little yesterday… because of the media in Winnipeg. I had thoughts. They were initially going to live here, but they went too long and needed their own space. So you can read them here:
  • Did you get a chance to check out our updated prospect rankings to open December? Lots of heat in the college and junior ranks right now for the Blackhawks rebuild.
  • You know how sometimes we can jinx things pretty bad by talking about it? Yeah… I’m gonna take the L on behalf of Frank Nazar III. He won 9 of 15 faceoffs on Friday night. But Michigan lost 6-1, and Nazar was minus-5 in the game. Whelp…
  • If Notre Dame scored six times, that means we might have some Landon Slaggert highlights, right? Hell yeah! How about two goal?!? Notre Dame’s captain has now tied his collegiate career-high of 12 goals — in only 15 games.
  • Ryan Greene had two assists and won 10 of 13 faceoffs with three shots on net in Boston University’s 4-1 win over Merrimack last night.
  • Sam Rinzel scored his first collegiate goal and Oliver Moore had an assist and won 6 of 10 faceoffs as Minnesota handled No. 18 Penn State 4-1.
  • While we’re on the subject of defensemen scoring, Ethan Del Mastro put one in for the IceHogs last night. A lot of the Blackhawks’ front office is in Winnipeg with the IceHogs playing there last night and the Blackhawks this afternoon. I like where Del Mastro scores this one from.
  • We’re NOT DONE YET. Paul Ludwinski found the back of the net to get back into the scoring business. His point streak ended earlier this week but he’s not slowing down.
  • Two of the Blackhawks’ 2023 draft picks, goaltender Adam Gajan and forward Martin Misiak, have been named to Slovakia’s preliminary roster for the upcoming World Junior Championship.
  • From away from Chicago for a moment, the Devils were supposed to be a Cup favorite this year but injuries are crushing them. The latest: Dougie Hamilton had surgery on a torn right pectoral muscle. We’ll see if they have to make a deal to fill some of his minutes before he can come back.
  • Finally, the Winter Meetings are in Nashville for MLB this week. So it’s Trade Rumor Szn! And Free Agent Rumor Szn!
