Talk about a wild range of emotions for the Columbus B♒lue Jackets fan꧙ base and franchise.
On Wednesday evening, reports started flying that a matchup I have begged for for years is finally going to happen. The Detroit Red Wings (read: Michigan) against the Columbus Blue Jackets playing an outdoor game on the campus of Ohio State — in The Horseshoe. The irony: Columbus will be led into that game by Zach Werenski, Adam Fantilli, Kent Johnson and possibly Gavin Brindley — all University of Michigan alums.
Then, on Thursday morning the organization announced they were parting ways with general manager Jarmo Kekalainen. According to the team’s announcement (below), Kekalainen, was named the third general manager in Blue Jackets history on Feb. 13, 2013. He was one of the longest-tenured general managers in the NHL, but it just never clicked for Columbus.
Kekalainen leaves a lot of talent behind for John Davidson. The timing of this move is especially intriguing considering we’re less than one month from the NHL trade deadline.
