After practice on Thursday afternoon, the Chicago Blackhawks formally introduced Nick Folignoꦜ as the 35th captain in the history of the franchise in a press event at Fifꦿth Third Arena.
Foligno’s free agent rights were acquired last summer (with Taylor Hall) from the Boston Bruins for the RFA rights to defensemen Ian Mitchell and Alec Regula. That trade may prove to be one of the most significant in franchise history if Foligno can be 🥃the influence on the next generation of Blackhawks the organization hopes he can be.
Foligno, who will turn 37 on Halloween, becomes the first Blackhawks captain following the longest-tenured captain in the history of the Original Six franchise, Jonathan Toews.
Foligno, as well as Danny Wirtz and GM Kyle Davidson, spoke about the influence Toews’ legacy still has on the franchise. Foligno also talked about paying it forward to the next generation of Blackhawks while trying to win now.
