Just when you think the Lonzo Ball situation can’t get any worse, here we are.
Only a couple of days after head coach Billy Donovan confirmed that Ball is “nowhere near playing” and the organization may have to consider shutting him down all together, more salt 🐷has been poured on the wound.
Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times recently spoke about Ball’s health . He emphasized that those close to the team still do not fully understand what’s wrong with the point guard and that numerous doctors have been consulted.
Here’s the quote:
“It’s not like they are hiding something from us. They don’t know. Lonzo doesn’t know. His camp doesn’t know. Medical doesn’t know. I know they talked about, ‘yeah, he ha🌜d a second opinion.’ I’ve heard he’s had third, fourth, fifth, sixth opinion. That they are scouring to find something that makes sense, something that timetables it.”
That’s a major yikes right there.
The organization has remained confident that the issue isn’t expected to be a long-term or career-threatening thing, but how can we believe that at this point in time? This is exactly what Cowley was getting at with both Dan Bernstein and Laurence Holmes, making clear that there is still real cause for concern about when or if Ball can actually make a full return.
Look, I don’t want to jump to the worst possible outcome and say that Ball is done in the NBA. He’s only 25 years old and we’ve seen players sit out this long before making a full recovery in the past. But it is extremely discouraging to hear that there is still no obvious timetable or path forward. I guess I’ll just keep crossing my fingers that his body can finally take a big leap forward in the coming months.
