Bob Huggins Appears to Have Dropped a Homophobic Slur on Live Radio

West Virginia men’s basketball head coach Bob Huggins appears to have said a homophobic slur during an appearance on 700 WLW’s Bill Cunningham Show on Monday afternoon.

The long-time leader of the Mountaineers program, Huggins used derogatory language when speaking about fans of Xavier University. The head coach was commenting on an apparent incident that happened during the Crosstown Classic between Cincinnati (a team he used to coach) and Xavier, referring to Xavier fans as “Catholic [expletive].” The “F” word.

Awful Announcing was the first to share the audio, which you can hear . I warn you that the homophobic language is not censored. (Michael’s Note: This comment was very clearly not a slip of the tongue, either. Not that it would be much better. Indeed, Huggins was inexplicably proud of the point he was making, laughing all the while, and it is pretty disgusting. How anyone would think this is okay to say out loud, let alone in 2023 … during a recorded radio interview, is beyond me.)

The radio station hasn’t released the audio, themselves, yet. I’m not sure if they will. But there are other recordings/social media posts of it happening .

At the helm of West Virginia basketball since the 2007-08 season, all eyes will be on how the university handles the situation. If I had to guess, it’s hard to see a world where he returns as the face of the team.

We’ll also have to see if the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame chooses to make any statꦐement, as Bob Hug🔜gins was inducted in 2022.
