Another NBA season, another underwhelming batch of alternatiไve jerseys.
Continuing the offseason trend, the league’s newest City Edition uniforms for the 2024-25 season leaked online well ahead of opening night. The reception has been 🃏even colder than normal, as many of the new looks appear quite simple and uninspired.
The Bulls’ threads certainly check both those boxes at first glance. The mostly white colorway features linings of beige and light gold. A couple of Chicago stars appear on the side, as well as a marquee symbol in the bottom front corner that reads “Chicago Illinois, Home of the Chicago Bulls.” The jersey appears to be celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the United Center, as that is also patched into the bottom front corner.
So, without further ado, here is …
First things first, while I’d say there is a very good chance this is the right image, the City Edition uniform hasn’t been confirmed. We’ll likely have to wait weeks before the Bulls officially unveil the look. In fact, it doesn’t appear as if they’ll wear them for the first time until Nov. 14. The team teased this .
We also don’t know exactly what the bottoms look like yet. It feels unlikely, but there is a world where that enhances the entire thing. Nonetheless, I don’t think it’s out of pocket to say this is one of the least inspired alternates we’ve seen from Chicago in a while. Even the powder blue look from 2019-20 – which I wasn’t a fan of – felt like it was having fun with the whole thing. Maybe my opinion will change once it’s under the United Center lights, but I’m not holding my breath.
If anything, I think this year’s City Edition jerseys as a whole serve as a reminder of why making this an annual thing is unnecessary. It’s hard to think of something cool and new for every season, so don’t force people! I’d rather just have the NBA roll out something new every few years. Teams can then at least sport a look for multiple seasons and allow it to grow on people. But, hey, gotta sell more merch!
