More on the Military Bowl
Since 2008, the Military Bowl has been a fixture in the Washington metropolitan area, initially held at Washington, D.C.’s Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium and later relocating to Annapolis, Maryland’s Navy–Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in 2013. From 2014 to 2019, teams from the American Athletic Conference and the Atlantic Coast Conference were the main contenders.
Originally conceived as the Congressional Bowl, the game debuted as the EagleBank Bowl in 2008, thanks to sponsorship from EagleBank. The transition to the Military Bowl occurred in 2010 when Northrop Grumman🐼 took on the role of title sponsor, a position it held until 2019.
In 2020, Perspecta Inc. became the sponso🍃r, ꧂and Peraton took over in 2021. The latest three-year agreement has branded the game as the Military Bowl presented by GoBowling.com starting in 2023.
The bowl’s inception was fueled by the vision of the Washington, D.C. Bowl Committee, aiming to stimulate the local economy. Approved by the NCAA for the 2008 season, it marked the kickoff of that year’s bowl season.
Throughout its existence, the game has contributed significantly to the Washington, D.C. area’s economy and supported the USO. Unfortunately, the 2020 and 2021 editions had to be canceled, with the latter attributed to COVID issues within the Boston College team.
