    2023 CFP Championship Matchup: UofM vs Wash

    Both of these teams have had great seasons on their way to competing for a national title. Let’s take a look at how the teams got to this point.

    Michigan (14-0 overall, 9-0 in Big Ten)

    The Wolverines finished the regular season undefeated for the second straight season🍌 and won their thi🐈rd Big Ten title in a row with a 26-0 victory over Iowa. Michigan dealt with two suspensions of head coach Jim Harbaugh but found a way to win big games vs top-10 teams in Penn State and Ohio State during the regular season.

    In the playoff semifinal, Michigan beat Alabama 27-20 in overtime after stopping Alabama QB Jalen Milroe on 4th and goal. JJ McCarthy has thrown for 22 tou▨chdowns on the year while running back Blake Corum has a school record 25 rushing touchdowns including the eventual game winner vs Bama.

    Washington (14-0 overall, 9-0 in PAC-12)

    The world has been doubting Washington for much of the season but the Huskies have just kept on winning including two wins over Oregon and a playoff win vs Texas. The Huskies beat Oregon in the PAC-12 Championship game for a spot ꦕin the College Football Playoff.

    Michael Penix has been stellar at QB with 4,648 yards passing and 35 touchdowns. His top target is Rome Odunze who happens to be one of the nation’s best receivers. Odzune has 87 receptions for 1,553 yards and 13 touchdowns on the year.

    CFP Semifinal Recap: Washington, Michigan Win

    Let’s take a quick look at how Michigan and Washington advanced to the championship game.

    Michigan 27, Alabama 20 (OT)

    JJ McCarthy threw 3 touchdowns including a 4-yard TD with 1:34 left in the game to tie tﷺhings up 20-20. In overtime, Blake Corum scored on a 17-yard TD run which proved to be the game-winning score. QB Jalen Milroe was stopped on a QB draw on 4th and goal fro💧m the 3-yard line.

    Alabama t🙈railed 13-10 h꧂eading into the 4th quarter before a Jase McClellan TD run and Will Reichard field goal gave the Crimson Tide a 20-13 lead with 4:41 left in the game.

    Washington 37, Texas 31

    Washington and Texas were trading scores left and right in the first half as th🍃e game reached the break knotted up at 21-21. In the 2nd half, Washington scored the first 13 points to take a 34-21 lead with 14:51 left in the game. Michael Penix threw a 19-yard TD pass to Jalen McMillan at the 10:30 mark of the 3rd quarter before Grady Gross hit a 26 and 40-yard field to boost the lead.

    Texas responded and battled back to a 37-31 deficit with 41 seconds left. The Longhorns moved the ball down the field thanks to a 41-yard pass to Jordan Whittingham but were stopped on 4th and 11 from the Washington 13. Quinn Ewers tried to hit Adonai Mitchell in the cor✱ner of the end zone but his pass fell incomplete.

    CFP National Championship History: Game Results

    The first College Football National Championship was pl🎃ayed on January 12, 2015, to cap off the 2014 college football season. Number four seed Ohio State showed why the playoff format proved to be successful by beating no. 1 seed Alabama in ඣthe semifinal before winning the national title vs no. 2 seed Oregon.

    The playoff has been dominated by the likes of Alabama, Georgia, and Clemson as each team has won multiple national championships to go along with several appearances in both the semifinals and title game. Georgia won the the last two championshi🔜p games including a route of TCಞU last season by a score of 65-7.
