Nationals Park Cubs vs Nationals series preview
Nationals Park Cubs vs Nationals series preview

CUBS LINEUP — This afternoon, the Chicago Cubs are attempting to complete their second consecutive series sweep and reach five games over .500 for the first time since May 21. And they’ll do so with their rookie left-handed, Jordan Wicks, returning from the injured list … on his birthday! Here’s a look at the Cubs lineup for the finale in D.C.

Chicago Cubs Lineup:

  1. Ian Happ, LF
  2. Dansby Swanson, SS
  3. Seiya Suzuki, DH
  4. Cody Bellinger, RF
  5. Isaac Paredes, 3B
  6. Patrick Wisdom, 1B
  7. Nico Hoerner, 2B
  8. Pete Crow-Armstrong, CF
  9. Miguel Amaya, C

The Cubs lineup today looks a lot like yesterday’s (also against a lefty). By which, I mean Dansby Swanson is still batting second. But the two big differences today are …

(1) Patrick Wisdom is giving Michael Busch the day off. Is what it is at this point. Craig Counsell is committed to that. We jusဣt have to hope Wiღsdom runs into one.

(2) Mꦏiguel Amaya back in behind the plate for Christian Bethan🐬court.

Washington Nationals Lineup:

  1. TBA

Pitching Matchup:

Chicago Cubs:

Jordan Wicks was looking mighty impressive early on this season, but a forearm issue (followed by an oblique injury) has limited him to just six starts and seven appearances in total. But he’s finally back this afternoon — on his 25th birthday, no less — following four minor league rehab appearances. His last two minor league starts were particularly impressive, with a combined 8.2 scoreless innings, featuring eight strikeouts and just four hits + 1 walk.

Washington Nationals:

Parker has made ten starts since the beginning of July, with results all over the map. The overall numbers during this streak look terrible (5.81 ERA), but he has had a few gems mixed in and five pretty good starts overall. So don’t expect a cakewalk, even for the red-hot Cubs lineup.

Top Chicago Cubs prospect Matt Shaw quickly turned his 20-20 club membership into a 20-30𝕴 club membership by stealing his 30th base of the season. These are all completely arbitrary cut-offs, of course, but they do make for fun factoids:...
