CUBS LINEUP — The Chicago Cubs are starting a brand new series this afternoon, with the first of three games against Anthony Rizzo and the New York Yankees. Regardless of their evaporating playoff odds (we are under 2% now …), this should be a fun series. There are only 13 games left at Wrigley Field this season. We might as well enjoy them!
Chicago Cubs Lineup:
- Ian Happ, LF
- Michael Busch, 1B
- Seiya Suzuki, DH
- Cody Bellinger, RF
- Isaac Paredes, 3B
- Nico Hoerner, 2B
- Dansby Swanson, SS
- Pete Crow-Armstrong, CF
- Miguel Amaya, C
You’ll never guess … there are no changes to the Cubs lineup this afternoon. This has got to be the most static the Cubs lineup has been in a decade. Nothing wrong with that – indeed, the offense has been clicking – just pointing it out!
New York Yankees Lineup:
- Gleyber Torres, 2B
- Juan Soto, RF
- Aaron Judge, CF
- Austin Well,s C
- Giancarlo Stanton, DH
- Jazz Chisholm Jr., 3B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Anthony Volpe, SS
- Alex Verdugo, LF
Pitching Matchup:
Chicago Cubs:
Jordan Wicks made his long-awaited return to the mound on September 1 against the Nationals, and it generally went quite well: 5.0 IP, 4H, 1ER. There were no strikeouts, which was a little odd, but he also didn’t walk any batters and he generated a ton of groundballs (52.9%) and weak contact (87.6 MPH EV, no barrels, 33.3 hard%). The Yankees will be a much tougher opponent than the Nationals, but Wicks is a good young starter and I’m looking forward to him finishing the season strong.
New York Yankees:
Luis Gil has had a solid ꦛseason overall (3.39 ERA, 3.88 FIP), but it seems most of his success came ꦓin the first half of his season:
First 12 starts: 69.1 IP, 1.82 ERA, 31.5K%, 28 hard%, 38.9 GB%
Last 12 starts: 55.1 IP, 5.37 ERA, 23.2K%, 43.9 hard%, 35.7 GB%
He’s also failed to get through 5.0 innings pitched in each of his last two starts (Guardians, and White Sox), with a combined 7ER on 8 walks and just 6 strikeouts. Maybe he’s wearing down a bit? We can hope!
