There’s the Hayden Wesneski move.
Officially, Wesneski has been activated from the Injured List, and reliever ♏Shawn Armstrong has been designated for assignment to open up a spot.
Out since July 19 with a forearm strain, Wesneski returns to 3.94 ERA over 61.2 innings (7 starts, 18 relief appearances). He has had some great outings this year, but he’s had too many spoiled by the long ball (same as last year). The 26-year-old swing man figures to be up and down, and in-and-out of the rotation as needed for perhaps another year o𝓰r so, unless he really breaks out in one role or the other.
As for Armstrong, it was a waiver claim that just didn’t work out. With the Cubs, the 34-year-old righty threw 7.1 innings over 8 appearances, posting a 4.91 ERA. All the best to him, but a much better move to give any remaining innings this year to Wesneski, who’ll still be in the organization come next spring.
