Presidents Cup Standings – The 2024 edition of the Presidents Cup is set to be held from September 26-29 at The Royal Montreal Golf Club. This will be the second time that Royal Montreal has hosted the event, with the first time being in 2007. The only other international venue to host the event more than once is the Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia. The 2022 Presidents Cup was hosted by Quail Hollow Club in North Carolina, and the 2026 edition will be held at the Medinah Country Club (Course No. 3) in Chicagoland. Canada’s hosting of the tournament makes it the ‘International’ host for the event, which alternates between the United States and an International country.
Each team will consist of six automatically qualified players, with the remaining spots being filled by captain’s picks from Jim Furyk for the United States team and Mike Weir for the International team.
Mike Weir has mentioned that the front nine at Royal Montreal will provide more scoring opportunities, while the back nine will feature a few more challenging holes. According to Andrew Harvie, a Canadian golf architecture expert, the Blue Course at Royal Montreal, designed by Dick Wilson and modified by Rees Jones for the 2007 Presidents Cup, represents a period of golf-course architecture that emphasized precision and accuracy. Harvie explained that the front nine penalizes 💎mistakes while the back nine encourages players to take control of the game, m🌳aking it a good test for match play. He also highlighted the importance of the closing stretch of the course (holes 15-18) for creating an intense and exciting atmosphere.
Weir mentioned that he has fewer guaranteed players fo♌r his Presidents Cup team compared to the 🔴American team and expressed his increased focus on the Ryder Cup. He acknowledged that the Team USA players are talented and will play well, emphasizing the need for exceptional performance to win the tournament.
The U.S. Team will select its six automatic qualifiers based on a weigh🎃ted FedExCup points system calculated between J🌟anuary 1, 2023, and August 24, 2024. The top six players on the points list after the 2024 BMW Championship will earn a spot on the U.S. Team.
On the other hand, the International Team will use the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) to determine its six automatic qualiꦬfiers. This system ensures that the best pla��yers, based on their performance in various tournaments, are selected. OWGR points awarded through the 2024 BMW Championship will be considered, with no specific time period for point accumulation.
