The Chicago White Sox are in the midst of a horrible season and need talent to be added quickly to their roster. The 2024 MLB Draft is less than 10 days away and the Sox have the 5th overall pick. Let’s look at who they could select on draft day.

No. 5: Sox Take 1B/LHP Jac Caglianone (Florida)
Jac Caglianone is a stud. It’s as simple as that. He’s the on MLB.com and he has legitimate two-way potential as he would be a top-round pick as a lefthanded pitcher as well.
Caglianone is huge at 6’5″ and has an insane amount of pop in his bat. He hit 33 homers in 2023 to show just how valuable he is at the plate. Caglianone is aggressive and can chase, but he makes plenty of hard contact and was able to cut his strikeout rate down in 2024.
He is coming back from Tommy John surgery so he currently has more upside as a pitcher and the White Sox might just lean into using his bat for a frꦓanchise that needs༒ hitters and needs them quickly.
JJ Wetherholt is Another Option for White Sox
The White Sox could also look at West Virginia infielder JJ Wetherholt in the first round. He’s the number 4 overall prospect according to MLB and he is a pure hitter. He is one of the best amateur bats in a while and he can drive the ball to all fields easily from the left side.
Wetherholt was the Big 12 Player of the Y🐓ear hitting .449 with 16 homers and swiped 36 bags. He can run and flat-out hit. The biggest question surrounding Wetherholt is what position would he play at the next level. He played shortstop for the first time🃏 this spring but injuries limited his time there.
