The 2024 MLB Draft begins in a few days and the top prospects are waiting for their names to be called. There is tons of great talent in this draft but who will be going in the top 5? Let’s take a look at how the top 5 will shake out.

No. 1 – Guardians Select Travis Bazzana (2B, Oregon St)
Travis Bazzana could be the second Oregon State player to go number one after Adley Rutschman went at the top of the draft in 2019. Bazzana can mash and hit .407 with 28 homers this past spring. This pick could easily be Condon or Wetherholt but Bazzana’s skills at the plate hitting for average and power along with his speed should land him at number one.
No. 2 – Reds Select Charlie Condon (3B, Georgia)
The 2024 Golden Spikes Award winner, Charlie Condon had 37 homers and hit an insane .433 in 2024 for Georgia. His power is elite and he has a solid arm that should help provide at least average defense wherever he ends up. While standing 6’6″, he’s a reasonably good athlete and can run once he gets going. The Reds will scoop him up second in the draft.
No. 3 – Rockies Select Jac Caglianone (1B/RHP, Florida)
Jac Caglianone can hit for power and he has an above-average fastball with a solid cutter at 90 mph to go with it. He’s huge, 6’5″, and has the potential to be a two-way player at the MLB level. Caglianone doesn’t strike out a lot and makes solid contact while playing a great first base too. The Rockies might end up liking his bat a little more than his arm and settle him in as a permanent position player.
No. 4 – Athletics Select Braden Montgomery (RF, Texas A&M)
Braden Montgomery is another one who has a future as a pitcher or a hitter but will likely end up being used for his bat. He hit 27 homers this past season from A&M and sports average speed but a plus arm in the outfield. Also, he’s a switch hitter who does damage from both sides of the plate and would be a great option to anchor the A’s lineup once he reaches the bigs.
No. 5 – White Sox Select JJ Wetherholt (2B/SS, West VA)
JJ Wetherholt could fall anywhere in the top 5 and has a great argument to be the number 1 overall pick. The White Sox get a steal at number 5 as Wetherholt can run, hit for average, and hit for power. He might be the pure hitter in the entire class and is a legitimate base-stealing threat at the next level. The 𝓀White Sox need premier bats and they need them now. An elite college hitter at no. 5 makes sense for Chicago.
