MLB Power Rankings: Where All 30 Teams Stand at the 2024 All-Star Break

MLB Power Rankings — The All-Star break is just around the corner, allowing the baseball community to watch some of the sport’s biggest stars compete in the Home Run Derby and All-Star Game in Arlington, Texas.

This break could provide a much-needed reset for several teams, including the Yankees, Mariners, and Royals. All of them have lost 🌼more than half their games since mid-June and are looking to turn things around. In contrast, teams like the Phillies, Guardians, Orioles, and Red Sox are on winning streaks that they hope to maintain in the second half of the season.

So, where do all 30 teams stand as we approach th𓄧ese highly anticipated summ🐽er baseball events?

MLB Power Rankings: 2024 All-Star Break

1. Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies have set a franchis𓂃e record with seven All-Star selections this year🐻. Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, and Alec Bohm were elected as starters, joined by pitchers Zack Wheeler and Ranger Suarez and relievers Jeff Hoffman and Matt Strahm. They just completed a sweep of the Dodgers this week and head into the break as the cream of the crop in the National League and baseball.

2. Baltimore Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles have been one of the top MLB teams in 2024, finishing June with 17 wins, tied for the second-most in the month. Although they’ve struggled somewhat in July, so have other leading teams. Currently ranked second in runs scored (466), sixth in ERA (3.66), and eighth in quality starts (39), the are focusing on acquiring more pitching ahead of the MLB trade deadline.

3. Los Angeles Dodgers

A sweep at the hands of the Phillies this week should be a sobering wake-up call for the Dodgers as they head into the all-star break. Perhaps cash can’t fix everything?

4. Cleveland Guardians

The Cleveland Guardians are one of the biggest surprises leading up to the MLB All-Star Break, boasting one of the best records despite injuries to their starting pitchers. Steven Kwan and Jose Ramirez have been instrumen🅷tal in helping the team score the seventh-most runs (450) and achieve the ninth-best slugging percentage (.409). While the bullpen is solid, the Guardians are looking to acquire starting pitching before the trade deadline.

5. New York Yankees

The New York Yankees, once oneᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚ of🐈 the best MLB teams this season, have struggled significantly since mid-June, posting the worst record in the league (6-17) after a strong start at 50-22. Despite MVP threats like Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, the Yankees need to acquire more pitching and a corner infielder at the trade deadline to avoid extending their World Series drought.

6. Milwaukee Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers’ pitching staff (3.64 ERA) has begun to improve after being supported by the lineup early in the season. With quality starts and a strong bullpen, they have achieved a 20-17 record since June 1, tied for the ninth-most wins. While they don’t plan to be very aggressive at the trade deadline, the Brewers are in a winnable division and have a solid roster to maintain their standing in the MLB.

7. Atlanta Braves

Given the injuries this season, being nearly ten games above .500 at the All-Star Break is a positive for the Atlanta Braves. Despite struggling at times and playing like one of the league’s worst teams earlier in the summer, recent signs of improvement include a series victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. However, injuries have led to inconsistency, making the team appear weaker overall.

8. Minnesota Twins

Since June 1, the Minnesota Twins have been one of MLB’s top teams. Despite a 4.20 ERA from their pitching staff, their lineup leads with a .835 OPS and a .288 batting average. The Twins are becoming serious contenders as they compete with the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Central.

9. Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox are the hottest team in baseball, boasting the best record in July and the third-best since June 1 (22-12). While their pitching staff has a 4.19 ERA, the lineup’s strong .801 OPS compensates for it. As the MLB trade deadline approaches, the key question is whether the Red Sox will acquire more talent or sell off players like Kenley Jansen to reduce payroll.

10. Seattle Mariners

The Seattle Mariners are faring better in July, boasting a winning record thanks to their pitching staff’s impressive 2.41 ERA over 82 innings. However, their underperforming lineup (.724 OPS) is preventing more wins. While the pitching deserves a higher ranking, the batting order needs improvement as the MLB trade deadline approaches.
