To nobody’s surprise, Iowa’s Caitlin Clark was named the AP Player of the Year this morning. She received 20 of the 28 votes with last season’s winner, South Carolina’s Aliyah Boston, garnering the other eight. Of note, voting for this award took place prior to the Women’s NCAA Tournament.
Caitlin Clark had an amazing 2023
Cl🎐ark had yet another sensational season for the Hawkeyes and this time, it was an all-timer. She led the team in minutes, points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks per game. She has amassed the 6th most points (984) and became the first player in D1 history to have 900+ points and 300+ assists in a single season. Most importantly, the Junior guard has helped lead Iowa to its first-ever 30-win season and a Final Four appearance for the first time since 1993.
Caitlin proved her prowess on the biggest stages this year an💎d had a performance for𒈔 the ages to get her Hawkeyes to the Final Four. She recorded the first-ever 40-point triple-double during Iowa’s 97-83 Elite 8 victory over Louisville.
A career for the ages
It seems she was destined to win this award at some point in her career. Clark burst onto the scene leading the nation in scoring and assists as a freshman. She is always on the nightly sports sh🥂ows for her ability to make♎ ridiculous 3-pointers. She’s averaging an absurd 27 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 8 assists per game throughout her career.
To say Clark thrives in the biggest moments is an understatement. She and Iowa will now take on undefeated South Carolina for a chance to play for a National Championship. If Caitlin puts the cape on once more, not only does Iowa have a real shot to win, but she may need to be renamed – Caitlin Clark (Kent).
