The 2024 Masters is the first men’s major golf tournament of the year but also boasts the smallest field of the three other major golf tournaments on the schedule. As of Monday, April 8th, the field sits at 89 golfers who earn invites through 20 exemption categories which include the top 50 in the Official World Golf Rankings, every PGA Tour winner from last year, and all past champions of the Masters Tournament.
The following is a rundown of eight of the most notable golfers from both the PGA and LIV Golf that won’t be part of the 2024 Masters field.

8 Players Who Won’t Be at the 2024 Masters Tournament
Talor Gooch
Gooch was one of the most talented players to head to LIV Golf from the PGA and he’s been successful thus far with three wins in 2023. He’s also been one of the most outspoken stating that if Rory McElroy wins the Masters, due to some of his fellow LIV golfers not getting in due to low world rankings.
Despite a solid 2023, Gooch is not in the field because his world ranking dropped too low for eligibility (550), due to playing mostly LIV events. He also didn’t finish well enough at last year’s Masters (T34) to get that invitation.
Louis Oosthuizen
Despite a last-minute invite to the 2023 Masters thanks to a T7 at the DP World Tour’s Alfred Dunhill Championship landed Oosthuizen spot 50 in the world rankings, he withdrew in the second round due to injury. His former Masters exemptions from high-major finishes have run out, and Oosthuizen won’t be a part of the 2024 Masters for the first time in 15 years.
Abraham Ancer
When he signed up for LIV Golf in 2022, Ancer was 20th in the world and was invited to last year’s Masters thanks to keeping a spot in the top 50 despite only taking part in two more world ranking appearances prior to the tournament. 2023 in Augusta was Ancer’s fourth-straight appearance but the streak will end there. With a world rank of 209 after competing in just five events offering points since last year’s Masters, Ancer is out.

Bernhard Langer
A Masters tournament without Langer, is that even possible? This would have been his 41st time in Augusta for the prestigious event but an Achilles tear while has derailed this year’s participation.
Harold Varner lll
Here we have another LIV golfer who was able to qualify last year for the Masters thanks to his world ranking at the end of 2022 (45th). Varner lll has only participated in four world ranking tournaments since last year’s event in Augusta and is now ranked 466th, and forced to sit out the 2024 Masters.
Angel Cabrera
Cabrera’s release from prison in late 2023 sparked questions about his potential return to Augusta National for the 2024 Masters. Sentenced in 2021 for threatening and harassing a former partner, he remains eligible to compete despite the controversy, according to Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley.
Cabrera won’t be in the 2024 Masters field, however, as his visa was “” back in March according to Golfweek.
Dean Burmester
He’s one of LIV Golf’s hottest players right now, having won two straight DP World Tour titles in South Africa at the end of 2023, but it’s not enough to earn a spot at the 2024 Masters. Burmester currently boasts a world ranking of 113, which is shy of the qualifying window of the top 50.
Kevin Kisner
Kisner has played in every iteration of this event since 2015 along with every major championship in that time frame, but won’t be a part of the 2024 Masters. Sadly, he hasn’t been playing well on the golf course and hasn’t had one top-50 finish at a PGA event in over a year. It appears that Kisner has stepped away from participating right now and is part of the NBC broadcast team.
