After the Giants and star quarterꩲback Daniel Jones beat the clock and agreed to a new contract extension, the Giants will place the franchise tag on Saquon Barkley.
A Daniel Jones extension seemed to be a bona fide priority for the🉐 Gian𒁃ts from the start. Still, Saquon Barkley has made it clear that he wants to stay in New York. The Giants have also said that they want to keep both stars in town.
With news that Jones and the Giants agreed to a new four-year, $160 million contract, that’s possible for the Giants.
Barkley finished the season with 1,312 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on 295 attempꦜts (4.4 YPC). Barkley also caught 57 passes for 338 yards (5.9 YPC).
In November, Barkley turned down a $12 million yearly offer during the Giants’ bye week. Negotiations halted at that point. Christian McCaffrey’s $16 million annual average is at the top of the market. All the Giants have to do was meet Barkley in the middle. ESPN’s Jordan Raanan that “the belief is if the two sides meet at $14 million per year, a deal could get done.”
Now the Giants and Barkley have some more tim🦂e to find that happy medium.
