It’s finally over! According to this afternoon, the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets have agreed to terms on a trade that will send future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the Jets for the 2023 season.
Here are the terms of the trade, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter:
Rodgers made a public announcement last month that he wanted to play for the Jets in 2023 and the two sides have been working on a deal since. Sunday brought reports that the two tಞeams were back at the negotiating table☂.
During Aaron Rodgers’ first media appearance following his darkness retreat after the season, he made it clear that he wanted to play again — despite saying that he entered the retreat 90 percent sure he wanted to retire — but since it was apparent to him that the Packers no longer wanted him, he wanted to play elsewhere.
Now that the deal is done, we know what the Packers are getting in return. Green Bay gets to move up two spotℱs in the first round on Thursday and banks a second-rounder and sixth-rounder in this draft. They also receive a second-rounder next season that will, barring injury, become an additional first-🍷rounder.
It’s a pretty good deal for the Packers, all things considered.
I’m just glad that this is over. You can read more about my thoughts on Rodgers’ departure from Green Bay last month. And I’m sure I’ll have more soon.
