Green Bay Packers 7-Round Mock Draft (Post-Aaron Rodgers Trade)

The Green Bay Packers are loaded heading into this year’s draft with a whopping 11 draft picks. Granted, four of those are in the seventh round, but it still makes for a nice haul. Below is a complete 7-round Green Bay Packers mock draft as they retool both sides of the ball.

On Monday, the Packers finally traded Aaron Rodgers to the Jets. In return, Green Bay moved up a couple spots in the first round and acquired an additional second-round draft pick, among other assets. Green Bay will now enter the Jordan Love era, making this draft even m🔯ore critical for cheeseheads.

Green Bay Packers 7-Round Mock Draft

The Packers are at a turning point in their franchise and a solid draft could go a long way in making that transition as smooth as po🔴ssible. In this mock draft, the Packers add depth at several p🌃remier positions while addressing some key positions of need.

Round 1 (No. 13)

Pick: Nolan Smith, DE, Georgia

Taking Nolan Smith with their first pick is a pick that both fills a need on the defens💫ive line while providing tremendous upside. Smith is coming off of a torn pectoral muscle that cut his 2022 season short and has certainly impacted his draft stock to the point where Green Bay would be able 🌺to nab him at this spot.

But, Smith demonstrated plenty of potential as a part of the vaunted 2021 Georgia defense, recording seven ꦰsacks and 28 total pressures. Smith is also better against the run than a lot of other edge defenders, earning a run defense grade of over 90 in each of the ꧂past two seasons (per PFF).

Round 2 (No. 42)

Pick: Josh Downs, WR, North Carolina

Another year, another draft for the Packers without taking a wide receiver in the🍃 first round. But, it still is a positiജon of need despite landing Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs last year. But, Josh Downs may be one of the more underrated players in this wide receiver class. Downs is coming off of back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons and is a two-time 1st-team All-ACC selection.

Downs has also been strong after the catch. Per , among Power Five receivers who saw 200+ snaps from the slot, Downs ranked 11th in ya༺rds after the catch with 375. He also had an exceptional 7.4 yards after catch per reception in 2021.

Round 2 (No. 45)

Pick: Sam LaPorta, TE, Iowa

Nothing like Green Bay taking a corn-fed Midwesterner to help kick off their 2023 draft. After losing Robert Tonyan to free agency, tight end is one of the clearest positions of need for the Packers. LaPorta has been the focal point of Iowa’s passing game the past several seasons, posting back-to-back seasons with 50+ receptions.

With his ability to split out wide, LaPorta would give Green Bay the𓆏 versatility they need to have a solid passing attack.

Round 3 (No. 78)

Pick: Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, CB, TCU

One trend for this Packers mock draft i🅘s Green Bay taking size outliers (not in a good way), but this draft class is full of 🐈them.

Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson will be one of the smallest cornerbacks in the league, measuring in at 5’8″ and 178 pounds. That frame, however, didn’t stop him from breaking up 28 passes and making five interceptions throughout his three years at TCU. He also forced 21 incompletions in 2022, first among cornerbacks according to PFF.

Round 4 (No. 116)

Pick: Kobie Turner, DI, Wake Forest

As mentioned, run defense is an area that Green Bay needs to improve massively in 2023. Kobie Turner will🅠 have a chance to make an immediate impact. He recorded a run-stop rate of 11.5% (per PFF), which was in the 95th percentile of interior defenders in 2022. Turner also offers some versatility as he recorded 34 pressures in his final season at Wake Forest.

Round 5 (No. 149)

Pick: Dorian Thompson-Robinson, QB, UCLA

Regardless of what you think of Jordan Love,𓂃 having a healthy quarterback competition with someone who has a lot of unknowns is never a bad thing. Thompson-Robinson also adds some much-needed quarterback depth to a roster that would otherw💖ise only have Danny Etling as the only other option behind Love.

Round 6 (No. 207)

Pick: Jason Taylor II, S, Oklahoma State

Right now, safety Adrian Amos remains unsigned. T🅘aylor has been a starter for the past two seasons at Oklahoma State and had a coverage grade above 70 in each of those two seasons (per PFF). Taylor would provide some depth at a non-premier po💝sition.

Round 7 (No. 232)

Pick: Jalen Moreno-Cropper, WR, Fresno State

You can never have enough wide receivers, especially if you’re the Packers right now. Jalen Moreno-Cooper is another smaller prospect, but he produced quite well at Fresno State with 900 receiving yards in each of his final two seasons and 21 touchdowns across his final three seasons.

Round 7 (No. 235)

Pick: Jonah Tavai, DI, San Diego State

Jon﷽ah Tavai is an intriguing small-school sleeper pick in this class who offers a ton of versatility. In his final season with San Diego State, Tavai was moved all around the line, playing at one alignment on no more than 26% of his snaps. He also recorded a 22.4% pass rush win rate and 8.2% run stop rate in 2022 (per PFF).

With some time, Tavai can become a rotational player on the Packers’ defensive line if he continues this trajectory of play.

Round 7 (No. 242)

Pick: Trevor Reid, OT, Louisville

David Bahktiari isn’t getting any younger and will incur a $40m cap hit in 2024. Trevor Reid offers some upside at a position that Green Bay may need to fill sooner than they expect. A two-year starter at Louisville, Reid is an extremely athletic tackle as he had a 9.61 , which is the fourth-highest of all tackles in this year’s class.

Round 7 (No. 256)

Pick: Robert Cooper, DI, Florida State

Robert Cooper had a small fall-off in production last year, as he had his best year in 2021. With 31.25-inch arms (7th percentile), he doesn’t have the ideal length. But he did have a missed tackle rate of just 3.4% in college, which is an outstanding mark.
