The Texans killed the NFL Draft last year, selecting the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and Defensive Rookie of the Year with back-to-back picks, and they also drafted a solid wide receiver in Tank Dell. What will this season’s haul look like? Let’s take a look in this mock draft.
Before we get to the mock draft, Houston also had a solid free agency period, adding pass rusher Danielle Hunter and multi-use defenseman Denico Autry. They also executed a trad🎃e for running back Joe Mixon and re-signed Dalton Schultz, securi⛄ng their budding offense led by sophomore quarterback C.J. Stroud.

Round 2, Pick 42: Braden Fiske (DL), FSU
The🤪 Texans could use another big body to anchor their revamped defensive line. Fiske is a high-effort player with a never-quit attitude on the field. He impressed at the 2024 NFL Combine, showca🙈sing incredible athleticism for a defensive lineman with a burst you normally don’t see from players his size (4.78 40-yard dash at 292 pounds). The FSU product would be a solid addition to this surging Houston team in their efforts to get to the next level.
PFF gave me a solid A grade for this selection as Fiske is ranked No. 38 on their big board head♉ing into the 2024 NFL Draft.
Round 2, Pick 59: Kiran Amegadjie (OT), Yale
Keeping C.J. Stroud clean should be a priority for Houston and Amegadije offers that sweet mix of size, athleticism, and upside. His physical attributes and on-field performances suggest a ceiling that’s hard to ignore, while there’s potential to improve with NFL coaching. He is coming off a shortened 2023 season due to injury but could provide some solid depth to this top-10 offensive line that had its share of injuries last season.
This pick received a B- from PFF. They have Amegadijꦕe ranked as o꧂verall No. 57 and their 11th-ranked offensive tackle.

Round 3, Pick 86: D.J. James (CB), Auburn
In the third round, the Texans bolster their secondary with James. At just 5’11”, 185 lbs, he’s a ball-hawking cornerback with a knack for creating turnovers. His blazing speed (4.40 40-yard dash) allows him to keep pace with receivers deep down the field, while his impressive closing ability ensures he can challenge throws even in stride.
James’ aggressive style shines in press coverage, where he disrupts receivers at the line of scrimmage, throwing off their timing and making them fight for every yard. Even in zone coverage, his instincts take over. He reads quarterbacks’ eyes like a book, reacting swiftly to throws and preventing completions.
PFF 🍒has James ranked a bit lower t💖han other sites and this pick got a C grade. The former Tiger is ranked as the No. 108 on their big board and he was taken at spot 86 in this mock draft.
