Accord🥃ing to a number of on Tuesday morning, the sale of the Ottawa Senators is finally coming to completion. Billionaire Michael Andlauer, who owns a minority stake in the Montreal Canadiens, has reached an agreement to purchase the Senators for almost $1 billion.
The deal is still subject to league approval, at which poin🍷t♚ Andlauer would obviously have to sell his stake in the Habs.
Andlauer will purchase the franchise from the estate of Eugene Melnyk, who died in March 2022. He originally acquired the team out of bankruptcy two decades ago for $92 million — the family is going to make a lovely profit on this transaction.
Getting this deal done is important for the Senators and the rest of the NHL. Ottawa has a number of players who are in limbo waiting for contract negotiations to begin in earnest, including former Blackhawk Alex DeBrincat.
