The 2023-24 NHL Trade Deadline is on Friday, March 8, 2023 at 3 PM ET.
Before the deadline, NHL teams can only carry 23 players on their NHL rosters. After the deadline, a team can carry more than 23 players if the organization has the cap space to support additional bodies. NHL players can sign contract extensions after the tr♏ade deadline.
There are some roster limitations after the trade deadline. After the NHL trade deadline, teams only get four regular call-ups from their mi💙nor league affiliates for the rest of the regular sea🤡son.
In r🍰ecent years, the trade deadline day itself has seen varying degrees of activity; during the 2022-23 season, more moves were made in the two weeks leading up to the deadline than on the day itself. More than 40 trades were consummated in the two weeks before the 2023 NHL Trade deadline; in the previous decade, that had been under 20.
There were 21 trades on the NHL’s deadline day itself in 2023, which was down from 33 the previous season.
